DALLAS — Jessica Southard, of Bronson, Fla., the 2009 Florida Watermelon Queen, earned the honor of 2010 National Watermelon Association Queen Feb. 20 at the Fairmont Dallas hotel. She will headline national and international watermelon promotions for the next year.
Southard, 20, daughter of Gary and Kathi Southard, is a student at the University of Florida.
Lindsey Mann, 2009 Georgia Watermelon Queen, took the title of national runner-up and will help with melon promotions in 2010, particularly in cases of appearance double-bookings.
The queen ceremony capped a night of banquet festivities for the 96th annual NWA Convention Feb. 17-21. The 2010 show broke numerous trade-show records for the NWA, including biggest show attendance and most successful auction, according to association officials.
