A new pack of snipped beans is being marketed by a group of growers and packers who are partnering with C.H. Robinson’s Rosemont Farms. The new line of Harvest Fresh label microwaveable and ready-to-eat cut beans, which come in retail and foodservice packs, will soon be joined by carrots and squash.


The microwaveable ready-to-eat cut beans, which come in retail and foodservice packs under the new Harvest Fresh label. Minneapolis-based C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc., which recently purchased Boca Raton-based Rosemont Farms Corp. Inc., markets the product.

The beans are grown, packed, sold and distributed through a partnership involving Rosemont and Pahokee, Fla.-based Hugh H. Branch Inc., its growers R.C. Hatton Farms and Pope Farms, and the South Bay-based packing operation, Performance Packaging.

Americus, Ga.-based grower Americus Beans Co. and processor Fresh Plants Inc. handles Georgia volume.

The beans come in 12-ounce and 2-pound packs for retail and in 5-pound bags that come two to a master container for foodservice.

In the future, the partners plan to offer medley packs containing items that go well with beans such as carrots and squash under the Harvest Fresh label, said Hugh H. Branch co-owner Brett Bergmann.

Bergmann said the sales agency for corn, beans and lettuce growers tried selling microwaveable unsnipped bagged green beans in 2006, but the marketplace moved to snipped beans.

He said the growers and packers who formed the deal earlier this year before C.H. Robinson’s acquisition of Rosemont chose the company because its growing network of field sales and distribution networks.

“We brought them on board because we felt they have a strong field team and logistical network to facilitate our distribution and to get this product delivered in a timely manner to our customers,” Bergmann said. “You have to be able to deliver the product to the retail customer when they want it and in the quantities they want. They (Rosemont) are an entity that has a lot of experience in value-added products.”

One of the largest U.S. bean and corn marketers, Hugh H, Branch sells beans from Florida, Georgia and Tennessee.
